Creed II Total Box Office Collection

lukiwils     01:47     Total Box Office Collection     No comments

Creed II Lacks the Spark to Rewrite Rocky History Again

Ryan Coogler’s Creed was a masterful return to a well-worn franchise. Written and directed by the budding auteur, the 2015 film succeeded in a number of important ways, including radically shifting the series’s problematic racial dynamics and making its star Michael B. Jordan one of Hollywood’s few bona fide leading black men. By interrogating one of film history’s most persistent foundational myths, Coogler orchestrated a kind of narrative coup, using one of Hollywood’s favorite white saviors as the springboard for a renewed story about redemption, loss, and legacy. But despite its own individual merits, this year’s sequel, Creed II, fails to quite live up to the potential of its predecessor, and Coogler himself seems to be the essential missing ingredient.

Michael B. Jordan Starrer ‘Creed II’ First Day Collaction Total Box Office Collection:
The Dragos aren’t the film’s only issue. Despite a clear attempt to course-correct, Creed II still renders Adonis’ girlfriend Bianca in two dimensions. Creed was rightly critiqued for sidelining its charismatic love interest, especially after going through the trouble of casting the dynamic Tessa Thompson in the role. Audiences left the first film enticed by Bianca’s story and empathizing with her frantic race to fully realize her music career before degenerative hearing loss rendered her totally deaf. Her character was beloved but lacking, despite the clear potential for a more substantive story. While Creed II makes a sincere effort to right that wrong by giving Bianca more to do, it does so in a way that largely takes her out of the main narrative. There are no real stakes for her story that don’t tie directly into Adonis’ well-being. While Bianca’s musical pursuits get a lot more screen time, they feel tacked onto the story as an addendum to the film’s real narrative arc.
  • For the most part, Bianca’s role is to be Adonis’s supportive partner and later his fiancée and mother of his child. She’s given no family that is not his, and no backstory that isn’t a gesture at the already established music career. It’s hard to believe that in a time when the black maternal mortality rate has dominated news coverage, there would be no real engagement with Bianca’s fears of giving birth, her desire to have her own family nearby, or just the complications of juggling her blossoming career with motherhood. Her hereditary disability is also treated like a creeping tragedy afflicting her child. Their daughter’s deafness is presented as a struggle Adonis has to overcome rather than simply a fact of her own life. It was a strange choice given the lengths the first film went to to show how Bianca’s deafness had changed and improved her experiences with music. Being deaf brought richness to Bianca’s life, not sorrow.
But in the end, Creed II’s biggest sin is that it feels strangely blind to the long historical arc that it steps into, despite a narrative that tackles that history head-on. Interactions between characters that should be bursting at the seams with decades of tension feel perfunctory and stilted. Instead, motivations are disseminated through clunky exposition. This is a film that requires homework. Viewers unfamiliar with the Rocky franchise (admittedly the odd exception) are left spending much of the runtime piecing together the resentments and rivalries of the characters onscreen. Sadly, Creed II misses that magical spark that made Coogler’s previous film crackle with new possibility and promise. Adonis Creed is the establishment now. His real fight was only ever with himself.

In 1985, Russian boxer Ivan Drago killed former U.S. champion Apollo Creed in a tragic match that stunned the world. Against the wishes of trainer Rocky Balboa, Apollo's son Adonis Johnson accepts a challenge from Drago's son -- another dangerous fighter. Under guidance from Rocky, Adonis trains for the showdown of his life -- a date with destiny that soon becomes his obsession. Now, Johnson and Balboa must confront their shared legacy as the past comes back to haunt each man.

2.0 received mixed reviews. The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film 2 stars. She wrote, “2.0 is dull as ditchwater in the first half, perking up a little in the second, with a half-way watchable Akshay, and a Rajini coming into his own right towards the end, for a bit. There are some oh-wow moments, but on the whole, the film is not worth all the sound and fury. “Will there be a 3.0? Give that a thought while I deposit my 3D glasses by the door,” she added.

2.0 is now the highest grossing Hindi dubbed film. It beat Baahubali: The Beginning’s lifetime business in just 6 days. Despite mixed critical reception, 2.0 is unstoppable at the box office. It recently crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the worldwide box office.

Kedarnath box office day 1: Sara Ali Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput’s film opens at around Rs 7 crore

Sara Ali Khan’s debut film Kedarnath, also starring Sushant Singh Rajput opened at around Rs 7 crore at the box office.Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan’s much-awaited film Kedarnath opened to moderate response at the box office bespite being the solo Bollywood release of the week. The film registered an opening of around Rs 7 crore, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. The box office predictions on Hindustantimes.com had hinted at the film collecting atleast Rs 5 crore on its opening day.

Sushant Singh Rajput Starrer ‘Kedarnath’ First Day Collaction Total Box Office Collection:

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor of Kai Po Che fame, Kedarnath is a love story of a Hindu tourist played by Sara and a Muslim porter (pithoo) played by Sushant, who takes her on the 14 kilometre-long pilgrimage from Gauri Kund to the shrine of Lord Shiva. The film is set in the backdrop of the devastating Uttarakhand floods that left several thousand dead in 2013.

Talking about the prospects of the film at the box office before its release, film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi had told Hindustantimes.com, “On the business front, Kedarnath should bring around Rs 5 crore on day one and then it would entirely depend on the merit of the film’s content. Since there is no star like Salman, Shah Rukh or Ranbir who can draw the audience on face value, it’s a film which is as good as its content.”
Sara looked promising as a newcomer on screen and Rathi had also said, “If you go by what we have seen of Sara Ali Khan in her interviews, public appearances, reality shows, Koffee With Karan and everywhere else, a lot of people are clearly very excited about this new young talent that has ..arrived. Lots of people are looking forward to the launch of Sara Ali Khan and that may possibly become the USP of the film.”

Thugs Of Hindostan recorded the third highest pre-sales of all time in Bollywood with bookings of nearly Rs 27.50 crore lagging behind only Baahubali 2 and Avengers: Infinity War.

Thugs of Hindostan, despite a stellar cast of Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, has been struggling at the box office since day two. The film earned Rs 4.75 crore its first Tuesday, making total collections of Rs 133.75 crore.

The movie after collecting Rs 52.25 crore smashed many records on its opening day. However, it failed to get good reviews from critics and suffered because of the negative word of mouth. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Thugs of Hindostan has been called a visual spectacle by its producers and is among the most expensive films ever made in Bollywood.

The credit for Thugs of Hindostan's record-breaking opening goes to its advance tickets sale and high ticket prices. The film also recorded the third highest pre-sales of all time in Bollywood with bookings of nearly Rs 27.50 crore. Baahubali 2 had earned Rs 31.5 crore in advance tickets sale, Boxofficeindia.com reported.

Thugs of Hindostan opened in 7,000 screens worldwide and the ticket prices were hiked at least 10 per cent. As if poor reviews weren't enough, the entire movie was leaked online by the website TamilRockers, which also contributed to its declining collections at the box office.
Due to negative word of mouth, the audience didn't appear in many shows which led to several screenings getting cancelled. Trade analyst Sumit Kadel mentioned the same in his tweet.

A report in Boxofficeindia states that the movie's first five day earnings were Rs 15 crore less than that of 2015's Diwali release Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's first five day earnings. However, the first three day collections of the Thugs of Hindostan were lower than Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju and Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai.
Thugs of Hindostan is a movie about the "thugs" led by the Khudabaksh portraited by Amitabh Bachchan revolting  against the East India Company in 1795.

Aravinda Sametha box office collection Day 1: Jr NTR film beats Rangasthalam in US

lukiwils     23:10     Aravinda Sametha     No comments

Jr NTR's recently-released film Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava has surpassed Ram Charan's Rangasthalam's record in the US.

Jr NTR is on a roll with four back-to-back hits in the last couple of years. His latest film Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, which released on October 11, might add to the list as well.

The production house had arranged for premiere shows in the US on October 10 and Aravinda Sametha has raked in over Rs 5 crore from the premiere shows. Apparently, Jr NTR's film has surpassed the collection of Ram Charan's Rangasthalam which earned a little less than Aravinda Sametha in the US.

Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, Aravind Sametha released in 194 locations in the US. The action-drama received an overwhelming response in India as well. In Nizam/Telangana, the film has earned over Rs 8 crore on its opening day.

#AravindhaSametha First Day : 8.30 Crores Gross / 5.73 Crores Share in Nizam / #Telangana

Highest Non-Baahubali Record..

Ramesh Bala (@rameshlaus) October 12, 2018
The film has raked in Rs 91 crore worldwide in the pre-release business.

According to a trade expert, the producers of Aravinda Sametha will reap profits if the film collects Rs 136.5 crore worldwide.

FryDay Movie Review: Vintage Govinda in a film undeserving of his talents

lukiwils     23:03     FryDay Movie Review     No comments

FryDay Movie Review is out now. Starring Govinda and Varun Sharma, FryDay is directed by Abhishek Dogra and also features Digangana Suryavanshi, Prabhleen Sandhu, Brijendra Kala, Rajesh Sharma and Sanjay Mishra

Good news is FryDay has Govinda back in form. He is in his element. We finally get the vintage Govinda which was missing from our screens for years or rather a decade now but the bad news is, the movie is a misfire and how. The premise is interesting where a failed salesman Rajeev (Varun Sharma) forces himself into the life of a theatre actor Gagan (Govinda) who is a cheating husband.

There are some sharp funny oneliners and most of them courtesy Govinda. His entry scene, in specific, where he is doing a stage adaptation of Mughal-E-Azam is hilarious. What makes that scene funny is the fact that it has Govinda laughing at himself. You know there is always used to be this complaint by co-actors that Govinda steals the limelight, that's what he is doing in the play with his fellow actors.

In fact, more than the dialogues itself it is Govinda's style of delivery that takes the scene a notch higher. Be it the physical or slapstick comedy Govinda is on a roll. But same can't be said about the film.

Screenplay by Manu Rishi Chadha is bad and his dialogues are a hit and miss. Abhishek Dogra's direction is plain average. I so wish he had executed it better. Writer Rajeev Kaul, who has written multiple hits of Govinda in the past, fails big time. The story has not enough meat.

The narrative takes a flight once Govinda enters the scene but the problem is most of the funny dialogues were a part of the trailer. And barring Brijendra Kala none of the actors compliments Govinda's talent.

There are two songs in the film one in the opening credit and another in the closing credits which are fine. The background score is loud and cartoonish which works for this kind of film.

But the worst part about the movie is the glorification of infidelity. It's been handled so childishly that even Govinda's movies of the 90s will be ashamed of it. Especially, at a time when Me Too movement has gained momentum in India, FryDay has Govinda as a cheating husband and I expected him to face some sort of consequences for his "actions" but by the end, the movie makes a hero out of his character and sort of glorifies cheating. Even in the 90s, we would see his character face the repercussions, point in case Saajan Chale Sasural. But not in FryDay.

Performance-wise, as mentioned above, it is Govinda who is the scene stealer here. This is the kind of performance that we all love him for. He looks good, younger and nails it. Varun Sharma acts well and tries hard but writing fails him. He is only funny in bits. But I have to say his chemistry with Govinda is amazing. I would love to see them together again in a better film. Digangana Suryavanshi is a miscast and misfit for the part is just about average. Prabhleen Sandhu is natural and looks beautiful but has nothing much to do. Rajesh Sharma is wasted. Sanjai Mishra fails to leave an impact in his cameo. Brijendra Kala is a riot. He is the only one apart from Govinda who brings the house down with his antics.

For the most part, FryDay is loud and unfunny and it is Govinda and Brijendra Kala who are its sole saving grace. How I wish the movie complimented Govinda's talent.

Jalebi Movie Review

 lukiwils     22:58     Jalebi     No comments

Jalebi Movie Review: Rhea Chakraborty, Varun Mitra’s Tale of a Tasteless Journey

Jalebi is a film about two long lost lovers who accidentally meet on a train years later. Here's our movie review.

It’s so ironic that a film named after a popular sweet is completely devoid of any taste. In fact, it’s so bland that you may take it for something that’s not properly fried and can induce serious pain while chewing. Even if you somehow manage to gulp it down, rest assured its taste is not going to last long, unlike what the film’s tagline promises. In fact, it’ll make you want to have some salad, just to change the taste of your mouth. I suggest you do it as soon as as possible. That’s arguably the best way to revive yourself from the slumber that only particularly unimaginative films can induce.

Bombay girl Ayesha (Rhea Chakraborty), an aspiring writer, gets enamoured with her tour guide Dev (Varun Mitra), a PhD scholar in history, on a Delhi trip. Love prevails over good sense and they get married only to realise that they don’t want similar things from life. They get separated to meet again many years later on a Delhi-bound train, on which their co-passengers are as clueless as the makers of this film.

This week witnesses the release of Helicopter Eela, Fryday, Jalebi and Tumbbad.

Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Helicopter Eela stars Kajol and Riddhi Sen in lead roles. This film is the story of a single mother and her relationship with her son. Kajol plays the single mother who oversees everything that her son does which her son might perceive as interference.

Mystery thriller Tumbbad stars Sohum Shah. The film looks intriguing and is backed by Aanand L Rai.

Rhea Chakraborty talks about depression over harsh comments about her | Jalebi | It's Entertainment

While talking about their upcoming movie 'Jalebi', actor Rhea Chakraborty talks about how she goes through bouts of depression when she reads harsh comments about herself. She also says that this is something she chose to be and how she is willing to take the criticism with a pinch of salt. #Jalebi #ItsEntertainment

Fryday stars Govinda and Fukrey fame actor Varun Sharma in lead roles and is a comedy film. Written by Rajeev Kaul, this film is directed by Abhishek Dogra, who also directed Dolly Ki Doli.

Directed by Pushpdeep Bhardwaj, Jalebi stars Rhea Chakraborty, Varun Mitra and Digangana Suryavanshi in lead roles. With screenplay by Kausar Munir, Jalebi is a love story.

Helicopter Eela, Tumbbad, Fryday and Jalebi movie release live updates: Here's what celebrities, critics and fans are saying about this week's Bollywood releases - Helicopter Eela, Tumbbad, Fryday and Jalebi.

Now a bit about the co-passengers. There is a woman who can talk as incessantly as FM radio hosts, the winner of a singing reality show whose face is longer than his shadow, an elderly couple who don’t care about what’s going in the film, and a young girl who does strange things to strangers. This journey could have been much more peaceful without her noisily eating something all the time.

These people are expected to make Rhea Chakraborty’s heartbroken lover to go down the memory lane and recall the time she spent with Varun Mitra’s mild-mannered Old Delhi charmer. Unfortunately, all they do is burden the audience with the labouring experience of watching the two reluctant lead actors struggle to strike an equilibrium with their unnecessarily vibrant surroundings.

In a scene where Rhea is determined to leave Varun’s house, all you can see is brilliant meme-worthy stills. Their tears will give you the joy that only scenes laden with overacting can. Even if you have been star-crossed all your life, you won’t think twice before laughing out loud.

There isn’t any point in talking about Jalebi’s aesthetics because it’s a film that neither knows its purpose nor destination. Varun Mitra tries his best to convince us of his emotive skills, but his scenes are so dull that even his bright smile looks dim. The less we talk about others, the better. Even in your most generous mood, you won’t find Jalebi better than the most average episode of a saas-bahu soap. My advice — try not to taste this stale, overdone offering.

Virat Kohli reviews Anushka Sharma’s Sui Dhaaga: So proud my love, he says
The very first review of Sui Dhaaga comes from Virat Kohli, who has singled out wife Anushka Sharma’s performance in the film. Read what he had to say here.

Virat Kohli on Friday tweeted his reaction to wife Anushka Sharma’s new film, Sui Dhaaga: Made in India. The cricketer wrote that he’d now seen the film twice and that he’d loved it more the second time. “What an emotional rollercoaster with brilliant performances by the entire cast,” he wrote.

Virat praised actor Varun Dhawan’s character, the mild-mannered tailor Mauji, but singled out Anushka’s performance as Mamta. Her “ability to be so quiet yet so powerful and impactful” stole Virat’s heart. “So proud, my love,” he wrote.

(2) Mauji was superb @Varun_dvn. But Mamta's character stole my heart totally. Her ability to be so quiet yet so powerful and impactful makes you fall in love with her. SO PROUD my love ❤😍 @AnushkaSharma . Don't miss it guys! #SuiDhaagaMadeInIndia
— Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) September 28, 2018
Sui Dhaaga, directed by Sharat Katariya, tells the story of a small town couple who decide to start their own tailoring business despite huge obstacles. Varun plays the perpetually happy Mauji and Anushka plays Mamta, his long-suffering wife. The trailer shows Mauji as a salesman at a shop that sells sewing machines. He is unable to find work as a tailor and therefore has to suffer the whims of his master and employer. Mamta hates watching him get humiliated all the time and wants him to start working on his own. Together, they fight for respect and starting a business that they can call their own.

Virat and Anushka were spotted at a special screening for the film in Mumbai. Check out pictures here.

The film received some timely free publicity when memes of Anushka Sharma weeping went viral. The marketing also ramped up with the Sui Dhaaga challenge, in which several stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and others attempted to thread a needle.

In a recent interview to PTI, Varun said, “I approach even my fictional characters as biopic characters. I am playing a tailor in Sui Dhaga. It’s not based on a particular person but it’s based on my observations of common people and how they go to work.” Sui Dhaaga releases in theatres on Friday, September 28.

Shahid Kapoor’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu is set to release a week after the Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal’s Manmarziyaan. Will the two films eat into each other’s box office collections?

Mitron (2018) Showtimes, Review

 lukiwils     00:54     Mitron     No comments

A love story set up in the Gujarati milieu of a couple as different as chalk and cheese. Jay, born and brought up with middle class values and upbringing, keeps an ‘unrestrained' and ‘take it easy' approach to life. He does not want to go behind the herd mentality and aims of becoming a chef. Seeing his free and easy approach, his father decides to bring stability in his life, thus plans to get him married. But destiny has something else in store. He accidently meets Avni, an ambitious, MBA graduate and strong headed girl.

Initial release: 14 September 2018 (USA)

Director: Nitin Kakkar

Screenplay: Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam

Producer: Vikram Malhotra

Music director: Yo Yo Honey Singh, Tanishk Bagchi, Toshi Sabri, Sharib Sabri, Abhishek Nailwal, Sameer Uddin

Mitron Review: Jay (Jackky Bhagnani) is so laid back and carefree that he literally won’t even lift a pen if he’s not meant to. Avni (Kritika Kamra) is a girl who will make him do it. It’s clear that the two don’t have much in common besides their middle-class backgrounds and the fact that their parents are extremely bossy and want to get them married as soon as possible. While Avni’s parents are more realistic when it comes to being parent-like, for the sake of comedy, Jai’s parents, his dad especially, is shown as so overbearing that it seems unreal. At times, even the jokes don’t stick. While Neeraj Sood, as the dad, has some genuinely funny moments, his character is perennially at the edge of his narrow seat which gets too much.

The first half is almost strong, as the story keeps your attention glued as it unfolds. But in the second half, with a wafer-thin plot that is extremely guessable, the film dips. It’s like a boring story that an elderly relative will narrate and you want to leave the room when that happens. The songs only work to elongate the suffering. Attempts like recreating Lata Mangeshkar’s 'Chalte Chalte' fall flat. Gujarat as the backdrop adds nothing to the plot. The city is not treated as a character as the story focuses strictly on the love and economic conditions of the two leading characters.

Performances by Jai’s friends, debutant actors Pratik Gandhi and Shivam Parekh stand out. Pratik, especially as the cocky loser, makes for some great comic relief. Kritika Kamra plays her part well as a strong woman who is vulnerable when it comes to matters of the heart. She makes the time she is on screen count. Jackky Bhagnani, on the other hand, does not. His is a very flat, one-dimensional performance.

With an extremely guessable plot and a not enough laughs to match, Mitron is a film you would recommend to those friends you want to get back at!
